Glads Make Deadline Deal
Thursday, March 07, 2013

The Gwinnett Gladiators acquired forward Ryan Ginand from the Orlando Solar Bears prior to the ECHL trade deadline Thursday in exchange for future considerations. In a separate move, forward Nick Walsh was sent to the San Francisco Bulls to complete a prior trade between the two sides.

Ginand, 26, had seven goals and 15 assists in 28 games with the Solar Bears this season. He also played in seven games with the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League, but did not record a point.

The Milford, MA native is in his fifth pro season, and so far has racked up 50 goals and 74 assists for 124 points in 136 career ECHL games. Ginand spent last season in Italy with Vipiteno, playing in 44 games (27 goals, 24 assists).

The 5’10" 185 pound forward was an ECHL All-Star while with the Trenton Devils in 2010-11, finishing sixth in the league with 75 points in just 68 games.

Walsh, 24, was signed by the Gladiators on January 17th after he appeared in 32 games with the Mississippi RiverKings of the Southern Professional Hockey League. In 20 games with Gwinnett, Walsh scored four goals and also had an assist.

His move to San Francisco completes a trade from January 14th, which sent forward Justin Bowers and the rights to defenseman Sacha Guimond to Gwinnett in exchange for forwards Rylan Galiardi, Christian Ouellet, and defenseman Cody Carlson.

The Gladiators are the ECHL Affiliate of the Phoenix Coyotes of the National Hockey League and are members of the ECHL, the Premier "AA" Hockey League and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
